MOTIVATIONAL INTERVIEWING · ONLINE LEARNING & PRACTICE

Becoming MI™
Practice Lab

Provided by AMIGA, LLC

Develop the conversational judgment your work requires. Practice motivational interviewing, explore what a particular moment needs, and connect your learning with the responsibilities you carry.

Whether you are discovering MI, deepening an established practice, or helping others learn, there is a useful place to begin. MINT members, MI enthusiasts, practitioners, supervisors, and trainers are welcome.

Today’s Conversation and Practice in Context are open without an account. Join free for values, MI Spirit Reflection, and a place to save learning. The Lab opens in a new tab.

CHOOSE A STARTING POINT

What would be useful to you today?

DEEPEN YOUR JUDGMENT

I use MI in my work.

Explore a professional situation with competing responsibilities. Explain your purpose, compare possible responses, and consider what you would listen for next.

Practice in context (opens in a new tab)

Choose by what would be useful today. These are flexible starting points, not levels or assessments of MI proficiency.

START WITH THE WORK

What does this moment need?

A useful response depends on the purpose, the relationship, and your responsibilities. In Practice in Context, explore higher education, child-welfare supervision, or team coordination. Keep the conversation in view, compare defensible choices, and decide what you might try in your own setting.

Each case explains how MI relates to the situation and where broader professional communication is involved. The cases are fictional learning exercises.

YOUR FREE LEARNING PROFILE

Keep the original insight, return to your reflections, and add what happened when you tried something in your work.

A SAVED TAKEAWAY

One thing I want to try

“Before offering an idea, I want to reflect the person’s own reason for change.”

A later follow-up: “I paused before advising. The person said more about what mattered to them.”

Return to what you first noticed and add what experience has taught you.

Keep saved activities, a personal journal, and values snapshots together. Nothing is automatically shared with your employer, supervisor, or a group. How your information is used (opens in a new tab).

LEARN ALONGSIDE OTHERS

Experience the work. Help shape what comes next.

Use the Lab for your own development, explore a case with a colleague, or bring a perspective that could improve the learning. If teaching AMIGA’s content interests you, begin by exploring the material and discussing where it fits your experience and setting.

Our teaching pathway is being developed. Preparation, observed facilitation, feedback, agreed use of materials, and ongoing support would shape readiness to teach. A formal trainer cohort, schedule, and terms have not been announced.

Participating in the Lab does not authorize teaching AMIGA materials. AMIGA’s invitation is independent of MINT and does not imply MINT endorsement.

OPTIONAL EMAIL UPDATES

Hear when there is something new to explore.

A few things to know.

What can I explore for free?

Today’s Conversation and Practice in Context are open without an account. MI Spirit Reflection and the values card sort are included with a free AMIGA account. A free profile lets you keep supported learning across visits. No payment or ChatGPT account is needed.

How do I create and activate my profile?

Choose Create my free profile and register on AMIGA’s website. Open the activation link in your registration email, then return to the Lab tab and sign in. Check spam or junk if the message has not arrived. Use the same browser to finish the journey.

Already have an AMIGA account? Use that account rather than registering again. Open sign-in and account help (opens in a new tab).

Will my work be saved if I explore before joining?

Guest work stays in the open tab unless you download it or choose an activity’s “Keep this practice” option. Where offered, that option holds a completed activity for 24 hours in the same browser while you register or sign in. Confirm the save afterward. Signing in before beginning is the simplest way to keep supported activities in your profile.

Does Today’s Conversation change every day?

Today’s Conversation draws from a collection of 31 fictional conversations. Try another when you are ready, or return to a situation that interests you. A new publication every day is not promised.

Is this training for an organization?

Becoming MI is the individual learning pathway. For team training, coaching, supervision, or organizational support, start with AMIGA’s solutions.
